What is Plasmapheresis?

Plasmapheresis (therapeutic plasma exchange) is a procedure that removes harmful antibodies and proteins from the blood. It is used in a range of kidney and autoimmune conditions where circulating antibodies cause rapid organ damage, and is performed in coordination with our hospital-based teams.

Signs & Symptoms

• Rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN)
• ANCA-associated vasculitis with severe kidney involvement
• Anti-GBM (Goodpasture's) disease
• Thrombotic microangiopathy (TTP or atypical HUS)
• Severe lupus nephritis or cryoglobulinemia

How We Treat Plasmapheresis

We coordinate plasmapheresis as part of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment plan for patients with complex kidney and autoimmune conditions.

• Indication evaluation and individualized treatment planning
• Coordination with hospital and apheresis teams
• Vascular access placement and monitoring
• Replacement fluid selection (albumin vs. fresh frozen plasma)
• Concurrent immunosuppressive therapy management
• Close monitoring for procedure-related complications
