What is Nephrotic Syndrome?
Nephrotic syndrome is characterized by large amounts of protein spilling into the urine, low blood protein levels, significant swelling, and elevated cholesterol. It results from damage to the glomeruli and requires careful diagnosis to guide the right treatment.
Signs & Symptoms
- Severe swelling (edema) in the legs, ankles, and around the eyes
- Foamy or bubbly urine
- Rapid weight gain from fluid retention
- Fatigue and loss of appetite
- Elevated cholesterol on lab work
- Increased risk of blood clots or infections
