Diagnosis and treatment of imbalances in sodium, potassium, calcium, and other electrolytes — including life-threatening hyperkalemia.
What is Electrolyte Disorders?
Electrolyte imbalances — including abnormal levels of sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium — are common in kidney disease and can cause life-threatening cardiac and neurological complications if left untreated.
Signs & Symptoms
- Muscle cramps, weakness, or paralysis
- Irregular heartbeat or palpitations
- Confusion or altered mental status
- Seizures in severe cases
- Bone pain or muscle weakness
- Abnormal electrolyte values on routine lab work
How We Treat Electrolyte Disorders
We diagnose and treat the full spectrum of electrolyte disorders with targeted, evidence-based interventions and close patient monitoring.
- Identification of the underlying cause (kidney disease, medications, diet)
- Hyperkalemia management (dietary restriction, potassium binders, medication adjustment)
- Careful correction of hyponatremia to prevent neurological complications
- Calcium and phosphorus management in CKD
- Magnesium supplementation or restriction as needed
- Patient education on dietary sources and prevention
